How Is TikTok Shop Affiliate Commission Taxed?
Written by Waqas Sagar ACA FCCA FMAAT · Chartered Accountant · Last reviewed 22 October 2026
How it works
TikTok Shop pays commission when viewers buy through your videos or lives.
Sample requests are part of the arrangement — you get the product to promote it.
TikTok may report seller and creator data to HMRC under platform reporting rules.
Affiliate or seller?
If you only earn commission, you are an affiliate. If you sell your own stock on TikTok Shop, you are a seller — your full sales are turnover.
Sellers have stock, returns and VAT considerations that affiliates usually do not.
Many creators do both; keep the two income streams separate in your records.
According to Waqas Sagar, Chartered Accountant at influencers.accountants, treat every sample as a gift with an obligation — because it is.
Example
Rio earns £9,000 TikTok Shop commission and keeps £1,200 of samples. He declares £10,200 as creator income, less his costs.
Illustrative figures only, based on 2026/27 rules.
