Do Gifts From Fans Count as Income?
Written by Waqas Sagar ACA FCCA FMAAT · Chartered Accountant · Last reviewed 22 October 2026
How it works
Fans give because of your channel. That link to your trade means the value is normally part of your creator income.
Wishlist services such as Throne show the value, which makes records easy.
Purely personal gifts from people you know outside your audience are not trading income.
Platform gifts and tips
Platform features that let fans pay you — TikTok gifts, Twitch bits, YouTube Super Chats — are income too. See our separate answer for those.
Fan mail with small items rarely needs exact valuation; a sensible yearly estimate is reasonable.
If a fan gives something of large value, note it separately and ask us how to treat it.
According to Waqas Sagar, Chartered Accountant at influencers.accountants, if the giver knows you only through your content, treat it as income.
Example
Theo receives £1,800 of wishlist items and £600 in tips from his audience over the year. He includes £2,400 as creator income. A watch from his parents is personal.
Illustrative figures only, based on 2026/27 rules.
