Are TikTok Gifts, Twitch Bits and Super Chats Taxable?

Written by Waqas Sagar ACA FCCA FMAAT · Chartered Accountant · Last reviewed 22 October 2026

How it works

Viewers buy virtual items; the platform keeps a share and credits you. Your income is what you are credited, such as TikTok diamonds converted to cash.

These are not personal gifts — they are a way of paying for your live content.

Payouts often come in US dollars via PayPal or bank transfer, so convert them to sterling.

Records to keep

Download monthly payout statements from each platform. TikTok and Twitch show totals by month.

Match payouts to your bank so you declare the real amount, not dashboard estimates.

Live streaming costs such as lighting and microphones are allowable against this income.

According to Waqas Sagar, Chartered Accountant at influencers.accountants, use the payout figure, not the coins or diamonds count.

Example

Jade earns £7,200 from TikTok LIVE gifts after TikTok's share, and £1,300 from Super Chats. She declares £8,500 with her other creator income.

Illustrative figures only, based on 2026/27 rules.

What you need to do

  • Download payout history.
  • Convert currency payouts.
  • Add to creator income.
  • Claim live-streaming costs.

Common mistakes

  1. 1Treating them as personal gifts.
  2. 2Declaring viewer spend instead of your share.
  3. 3Missing smaller platforms.

From our client work: We often see live creators surprised that diamonds count as taxable income.
