Target Audience
Who this service is built for
Twitch Affiliates and Partners, Kick streamers, gaming content creators, and esports athletes.
What we cover in this service
- Tax treatment of bits, subscriptions, gift subs, and direct PayPal/Stripe viewer donations
- Equipment relief for streaming rigs, capture cards and lighting, excluding private use
- US withholding tax management via form W-8BEN / W-8BEN-E
- Broadband and electricity allocation for home streaming studios
Are viewer donations taxable?
Viewer tips and donations connected with your streaming business are normally trading receipts. The label donation does not exempt them; genuinely personal gifts unrelated to the trade need separate consideration.
Every donation, subscription tier, and bit payout must be recorded and included in your annual turnover.
US Tax Withholding and W-8BEN compliance
Twitch is a US-based entity owned by Amazon. Without submitting an updated Form W-8BEN (for sole traders) or W-8BEN-E (for limited companies), Twitch is required by the IRS to withhold up to 30% of your earnings.
Treaty relief depends on residence, beneficial ownership, income category and the platform tax interview. W-8BEN or W-8BEN-E does not guarantee a zero rate for every payment. Check the treaty and foreign-tax relief rules.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I claim games bought for stream review?▼
A game genuinely acquired for business review or streaming may be deductible, but personal gaming costs are not. Retain the content brief and use records; apply the relevant business-purpose rules rather than claiming every purchase shown on stream.
Can I write off my high-speed fibre broadband?▼
You can claim a fair, reasonable business percentage of your home broadband bill based on your streaming bandwidth requirements compared to general household use.
